I want to eat your Pancreas (A review)
"I want to eat your pancreas"- A not so normal statement to say, no?
Well this this movie of 108 minutes, makes the watchers go through a wave of emotions- Hope, Sadness, Belief, and much more. Quite something Yoru Sumino made.
Basically this movie revolves around an introverted typical high-school student, but he accidently discovers a huge secret of of his classmate "Sakura Yamauchi" (Guide to pronounce this name! Sa-ku-ra ya-ma-auu-chi) and the secret is... That she has a pancreatic illness, and the statement "I want to eat your pancreas" comes from her mouth given the logic from the old folks believing that if you eat a healthy organ of a person it'll strengthen or he the same organ in the eaters body. But of course she didn't actually want to eat his pancreas... But in my perspective, I think she was trying to indirectly tell him that they had gotten closer- as they were so close that she could take a part of him and live with it for the rest of her life.
I think that the statement "I want to eat your pancreas" actually meant "I want a part of you to live on in me."
Back to the topic- Despite their opposite personalities the two start to get closer, Sakura who wanted to spend the last days of her life to the fullest without anyone else knowing decides that since he already knows about her illness, he should be the one one who'll help her fulfill it.
And needless to say, this Movie teaches us a lot- like the importance of life, The value of connections, and most importantly- the impact a person can have on another persons life.
Well, this story also gives us another message. To cherish people that are present in your life- after all you won't know their importance until they are not with you anymore, so you should always remember to cherish the people in your life, after all Nothing lasts forever.
And did you notice that I never wrote the name of the male protagonist- well there's a reason for that. You'll only know it if you pay close attention to the movie though.
